The Old Man On The Porch Is Still On The Porch!

Things are moving, albeit a bit slow, but any movement at this point is progress! On my last Doctors visit, he determined I was still dehydrated and scheduled me for fluids infusions on July 6, 7, and 8 to help build me up. It did make a huge difference. He also put me on insulin to control my blood sugar instead of changing the feeding tube formula. That has also made a huge difference. I never imagined learning how to give myself insulin shots, but it's not bad at all and I learned quickly how to do it. Normal blood sugars should read around 100, but mine was reading around 350, which made me weak and sleepy all the time.

Also, certain body functions do not work well, and with sugar that high, all the water I drank was being flushed right out and not doing me any good. That seems to have turned around, fortunately.

On Sunday, my family care team threw a party for my first chemo treatment on Monday as well as Keith's birthday. Lace & Cakes in Merry Hill made a spectacular multipurpose cake, half was happy birthday Keith, and the other half was well wishes for my treatments. We had neighbors over and had a grand time. I even got my own fan for the porch!

Monday July 11, 2016 went well. My appointment was at 8:00 AM and they drew blood, saw the Doctor and went for my first Chemo. It went well with no allergic reactions and then I went for my first radiation treatment. That too went well, except they draw a map on my chest and sides. At 60 years old I am still very ticklish on my sides! That was hard to lay still for!

Tuesday's radiation treatment went fine and much quicker since they didn't have to draw on me again. We have a special parking pass that lets us park at the back door and a short walk to check in. The parking deck has one elevator that's been out of order for a week now, and the other elevator is a bit of a walk to get to, but it was not working Monday, so yeah, I had to take the stairs down, but at least we were on the first level up, so it was just one flight of stairs.

I still can't eat anything, but I am able to take some pills and drink water. Hopefully I can eat something soon!
